128 - Urban Legends Concerning the Subway

【地下鉄にまつわる都市伝説、chikatetsu ni matsuwaru toshi densetsu】

The subway system in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is complex and intricate. As a result, there are many rumors and speculations about this system.

The National Diet Building, the seat of Japanese politics, is located on the Marunouchi Subway Line, and the station is two stories below the basement level, and it is said that there is one more floor below the basement level for the exclusive use of Diet members in the event of an emergency.

Additionally, the Chiyoda Line's Kokkai-gijidomae Station, which is officially six stories underground, is said to have an additional level below it, with two subway lines running through it, serving as a shelter in case of an emergency.

There are rumors that the Oedo subway line, which is designed to intersect with all subways, was built for the purpose of transporting supplies in case of a state of emergency.

The Yurakucho Line, which has a ceiling more than twice as high as other subway lines, is also referred to as a "contingency line", and is rumored to have been built so that tanks of the Ground Self-Defense Force could run through it in case of emergency.

However, if a tank were to pass through a subway line, the tunnel structure would not be able to withstand the weight of a tank, so this rumor is more than just a rumor.
