A man bought a cactus in Mexico.
For a while, he loved it, but one day he noticed something strange about the cactus.
The cactus wriggled around as if it were breathing.
Moreover, upon closer inspection, he thought he could hear rustling noises coming from inside the house.
Horrified, he inquired at a local garden store, and the clerk told him to leave the house immediately.
He left the house as instructed, and within a few minutes, the clerk arrived with a fire brigade in tow.
And, just as the fire brigade charged in, the cactus suddenly exploded.
A swarm of yellow-striped spiders flew out of the cactus.
According to the clerk, the spiders were poisonous spiders that sometimes laid their eggs inside cactuses.
When the eggs eventually hatched, the cactus erupted with more than 150 spiders flying out of it and scattering around the area.
The swarm of poisonous spiders was then incinerated by the fire brigade.
This rumor is an urban legend that has spread mainly in the United States.
Other variations of this story include a yucca plant instead of a cactus, scorpions instead of spiders, and even the absence of the incineration episode.
Naturally, this is nothing but a rumor, and so far, no spider that lays its eggs in cactuses has been found.
