Commonly known as SPR.
It was originally proposed by W. Barrett, a British physicist famous for his research on telepathy, and was founded in 1882 by Henry Sidgwick, a professor of philosophy and ethicist at Cambridge University, as its first president.
Their purpose was to scientifically study telepathy, hypnosis, mediumship, ghosts or apparitions, séances, and their history in order to affirm psychic phenomena. In 1885, the American Society for Psychical Research, also known as ASPR, was founded as a branch of the Society in the United States.
Among the supporters of these associations are Conan Doyle, famous for his "Sherlock Holmes" series, Lewis Carroll of "Alice in Wonderland", literary giant Mark Twain, psychologist Carl Jung, and many other famous people.
Later, it became too scientific, and many people, including Doyle, left the association because they exposed the tricks of psychic phenomena, but the association still exists and continues to study such phenomena.
