177 - The Head Office and the Jurisdictions

【本庁と所轄、honchou to shokatsu】

The Metropolitan Police Department is also known as "The Head Office". The Metropolitan Police Department is the police headquarters for Tokyo, the capital of Japan, and its scale is so large that it can be said to be exceptional in comparison with other prefectural police headquarters. The police organizations established under the Metropolitan Police Department are commonly referred to as "The Jurisdictions".

The police departments are divided into nine districts, from the First District Headquarters to the Ninth District Headquarters, with each district having its own jurisdiction, or area of responsibility, depending on the population of the metropolitan area.

When a certain incident occurs in Tokyo, detectives from the respective jurisdictions are assigned to investigate the case according to this classification. If the case is a major one, such as a murder, a detective from the main office will be assigned to further investigate.

While they are both professional investigators, in such cases, the Head Office's detectives, due to being elites among detectives, still take the lead in the investigation.
