A divination board known as Oui-ja or planchette. Planchette is French for "small board". "Oui" is the French word for "yes," and "ja" is German for "yes" as well.
It is believed that the name came from the use of writing boards with "yes", "no", the letters of the alphabet, and symbols written on them for divination.
The Ouija board consists of a heart-shaped planchette supported by two caster rings and a single pencil, placed on top of a board with symbols and letters, which enables the users to converse with spirits by reading the words spelled out by the path of the planchette, which moves when the users touch the planchette with their fingertips.
Therefore, it can be said to be a more advanced and simpler device for communicating with spirits than the ancient practice of séances or table-turning, in which communication with spirits was done by the movement of the table and the number of sounds made by the legs, as in a kind of Morse code communication.
In addition, cups are sometimes used in place of the heart-shaped planchette, but in any case, it is safe to assume that it is similar to the Mr. Kokkuri practice performed in Japan.
