[婆さん could also mean old woman or old lady depending on context.]
A young man was driving in the middle of the night.
When he looked in the rearview mirror, he saw an old woman in the distance.
---At this time of day?
Thinking that, he looked at the mirror again, and the old woman was gone.
---Must have been my imagination.
That's what he thought, but when the young man went to check the mirror once again, the image of the old woman jumped into view.
Not only that, the mirror reflected only the old woman---
She was chasing the car, jumping up and down at incredible speeds. Even though the car was going at nearly 100 km/h, the old lady easily surpassed the car and disappeared into the darkness with a fearless smile on her face.
This is the urban legend called "the Jumping Granny".
This story has spread across the country, and its location varies from succeeding highways to inside tunnels, and even mountain passes. In the case of the old woman being inside of a tunnel, it is said that if she catches up to you before you can exit it, you will end up getting into an accident.
Also, the way the old lady chases after someone changes between versions, varying from jumping, to running, even to walking at a tremendous pace. Depending on its form, this story has a wide variety of names, such as "the 100 km Granny", "the Turbo Granny", among others.
And, there also seems to be a similar story named "Twin Cam Gramps" in some regions.
