Sleep paralysis, ghost encounters, out-of-body experiences, déjà vu, and alien abduction. It is said that if you do not experience any of these by the age of 20, you will never experience them afterward. Of course, this is just a rumor, so it's not clear how true it is. However, there may be a reason for the limit being the age of 20.
These phenomena are believed to have a common cause, the brain.
Scientifically speaking, sleep paralysis, ghost encounters, out-of-body experiences, déjà vu, and alien abduction are all phenomena induced in the brain.
Sleep paralysis and out-of-body experiences both occur during sleep. If a person enters the dreaming state immediately after entering sleep, the brain may confuse the waking state and the sleeping state, resulting in a "hypnagogic hallucination" where a dream is perceived as reality.
Also, ghost encounters and alien abductions often occur late at night or during sleep, likely making them "hypnagogic hallucinations" as well.
And, the anxiety about the presence of ghosts or aliens influences their dreams, making the hypnagogic hallucinations feel real.
Finally, déjà vu is an illusion caused by a malfunction in the memory, also occurring in the brain.
Brain development is said to take place until the age of 20. In other words, the human brain is still in an unstable state until then.
Until the age of 20, the brain may malfunction, causing hallucinations and delusions during sleep.
As it is said, there is no smoke without fire, so the rumor of "until the age of 20" may actually be knowledge humans have acquired through experience.
