The current Tokyo Metropolitan Police Headquarters building in Kasumigaseki was commissioned in 1874 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the predecessor of the current Metropolitan Police Department.
Located northeast of the Imperial Palace at the Sakuradamon Gate of the former Edo Castle, the building was completed in 1980. It boasts an area of 6,582 m2, 18 floors above ground and four basement floors below, designed to withstand any disaster and maintain its functionality even in the event of an emergency.
In terms of both size and function, it is the world's largest police agency built to protect the security and peace of Japan's capital city, Tokyo. It can be said to be the best police agency in the world. [lol]
